Graduating the D2 Business Starter Programme
Hi, I'm Eloise, one of the founding Directors of SENDS Support CIC.
I am a primary teacher with a B.Ed. (Hons) from Nottingham Trent University, and former SENDCo with 16 years of experience working in mainstream primary schools and Special Education.
My daughter has an autism diagnosis (PDA profile) along with sensory processing difficulties, dyspraxia and severe anxiety. She was diagnosed at the age of 10 and features in much of our training. She does not have an EHCP as so far, we have been able to ensure her needs are met through the usual school provision. That doesn't mean she has had it easy - we have school absences due to anxiety and tend to have emotional or explosive outbursts at home due to her masking in school all day.
For the past 9 years I have been Assistant Headteacher of a special school in Derbyshire; Head of English, Behaviour Support, CEIAG, Communication and Exams and Assessment. I was also a PROACT SCiP Instructor for DCC – training education, health and care staff in Positive Behaviour Support.
I work part-time as an Elective Home Education Adviser for a local authority. This involves supporting parents to access support and resources for home education along with having a mediator role between school and parents when placements break down.
Working with people who have SEND is my passion rather than my job. My specialist areas are behaviour, communication and autism. I have a special interest in PDA and how autism presents in girls as a result of my own experiences as Mum of a girl with autism.
We started this company as a result of witnessing the difficulties experienced by parents. We found that our in-depth knowledge of the education system, law and SEN put us in the unique position of being able to empower parents to get the right support for their child and in-turn ensure that the whole family could meet their potential.
Our strategies will take hard work, perseverance and commitment from all involved. They are not an overnight solution - they will take time and patience; however the end results will improve the life opportunities of your family.
Working with us will involve a process of change, for both your family and your child's support network. You may all be asked to adapt your approaches and if you do so, you will never look back!
